The Monarch

As monarch butterflies are in their cocoon and the last of the cocoon fibers are shedding, there is a wrestle required to break out. A restlessness, a discomfort, a persistence, a determination – a wrestle. An ache for something bigger, a hope that it will one day be available. A belief that there is something beautiful beyond what has been known, though it has not yet been experienced.

If the butterfly quits in the frustration, delay, pressure, confinement of the cocoon, and the wrestle to break free, the butterfly will decay in the same place that once provided comfort. In the process of becoming, a strength and grit is produced that will be needed in the days of flying ahead— a perseverance. Strength that couldn’t have been built without the pressure of the cocoon. All of the elements are provided to fly – the wings and the air. Yet, there is a bravery required to break free, to let go of what used to be and to embrace the unfamiliar.

What is it like for the butterfly to break free? To thrust its wings for the first time in the wind? — To soar, to finally be free.
